Program Description

Program Description:

In 1943, changes in WWII military priorities led to halted mail posting/delivery, with a subsequent drop in soldiers’ morale. To fix this, the Women’s Army Corps’ all-Black battalion, the 6888, was sent to tackle years’ worth of backlogged mail. Enduring sexism and racism, they succeeded brilliantly and in 2025 will belatedly receive the Congressional Gold Medal. The 6888 were the only black female soldiers posted to Europe and their commander, Charity Adams, was the highest ranking Black woman at war’s end.
