Program Description

Program Description:

This film tells the true story of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian nun who is sent by the Pope to New York City in 1889 to aid the poor. She is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children. Cabrini begins a mission to convince both the hostile mayor and skeptical Archbishop to provide assistance in the face of anti-immigrant, anti-Italian prejudice. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini eventually founded philanthropic institutions around the world. So extraordinary was her work that she would eventually be canonized as a saint.
